Larry Lavine, the founder of Chili’s, took his chances at the inaugural Terlingua Chili Cook-Off in Terlingua, Texas. The competition was more fun than fierce, with some recipes including downright questionable ingredients. (Squirrel anyone?) After watching hundreds of people down spicy chili and cold beer, Larry recognized a true taste of Texas that could make for a unique restaurant experience. But what really stuck out the most was the “come as you are” atmosphere and energetic Team Members wearing blue jeans, making Guests feel right at home.
